“ON THE ROAD” a 50th Birthday Celebration

The Jack Kerouac Writers In Residence Project of Orlando has teamed up with sunscribbles.com to create

“ON THE ROAD” a 50th Birthday celebration like no other.

15 lucky writers will get to spend the weekend of Aug. 31-Sept. 2 writing in the house where Jack Kerouac was living in obscurity when “On The Road” was published in 1957, and where he spent perhaps one of the most prolific periods of his life, writing “The Dharma Bums” and other landmark works.

Stay in a period-authentic Art Deco hotel near the house. See the original “Dharma Bums” manuscript, as well as an authentic recreation of Kerouac’s writing area. Meet with Kerouac historian/author Bob Kealing.

Your host for the seminar will be former Kerouac Writer in Residence Darlyn Finch, who lived and worked in the Kerouac house from Dec 2006 through February 2007 and whose book “Red Wax Rose,” was produced in the house and published in February 2007 by Shady Lane Press.

A portion of the $495 cost of this event will be donated to The Jack Kerouac Writers In Residence Project of Orlando, a nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of Kerouac’s literary legacy, the preservation of this literary landmark, and the nurture of emerging voices through three-month rent-free residencies at the house.
