Mona Washington
Mona R. Washington, a New Jersey native, has been writing all her life. She is currently a member of the Harlem Arts Alliance Dramatic Writing Academy Workshops and a Resident Underground Artist of the Freedom Train Theater Company of Harlem and Brooklyn (NY). Ms. Washington received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School.
Her play “The Mason Jar” will be read at The Bleecker Street Theater in Greenwich Village (NYC) on October 4th. She has studied playwriting with Wendy Kesselman, and completed writing residencies at the Ucross Foundation (Wyoming) and the Ragdale Foundation (Illinois) last year. Ms. Washington also completed a fiction-writing residency at the Vermont Studio Center in March 2009. Ms.Washington received and completed in August 2006, an Archie and Bertha H. Walker scholarship to attend a Dramatic Monologue Writing Workshop at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA.
Her plays have been read in Rome. Italy, Philadelphia and New York and one of her screenplays was optioned by NBC. Ms. Washington is also the author of several plays, an unpublished manuscript (a collection of interlocking short stories) and two screenplays.
She is an avid traveler, and like Jack Kerouac, her travels provide inspiration for her writing. Ms. Washington has worked in a variety of legal positions, including but not limited to law clerk to the Honorable Constance Baker Motley in the Southern District of New York, media attorney in Italy, corporate associate in a major New York law firm, and entertainment attorney for a major studio, a major television network and a major music company.
